Two Brewarrina Central School students are leaping into the big time, securing places in the State Athletics competition at the Sydney Olympic Park Athletics Centre in September.

High school student Kirk Eyre qualified with a phenomenal result in the high jump with a 1.45m jump at the regional event in Dubbo earlier this month.

Fellow student Taniqua Morris qualified after posting 4.06 metres in the long jump.

Kirk also qualified for the state with a Javelin throw of 27.27 metres.

Bre Central School physical education teacher Simone Murphy was full of praise for her two students.

“It’s fantastic that they have made it to state, which is where the best young athletes from across New South Wales will be competing,” Ms Murphy said.

“Kirk and Taniqua deserve to be there after their efforts at the regionals on July 28. They both have enormous natural talent and will only get better as they get more coaching.

“We are all really proud of them and excited about what they’ll do at the state championships.”
