Every year, dedicated Bourkeites from across the state, gather for their annual June long weekend get together at South West Rocks, but like many events, COVID has played a starring role in the lead up to the event.

This year, the June long weekend did not see the crowd of Bourkeites descend on the town, but organiser Craig Moran said all is not lost.

There is still the chance for Bourkeites to get together and relive the glory days.

“What happened this year was that, due to COVID, people started travelling around regional areas, doing the grey nomad thing,” he said.

“Other Bourkeites bought motorcycles and were going on long treks that weekend, others had personal reasons why they couldn’t make it but it meant that in the end, there were not enough of us to field a team for the Old Boys Rugby match.

“So, the decision was made to put this year’s reunion on hold and have a bigger and better event next year.
