Bourke Spring Flower and Geranium Show
On Saturday the Bourke & District Garden Club held its annual Spring Flower and Geranium Show.
Entries were down compared to previous years and the recent hot weather affected the quality of flowers. The Spring Flower & Geranium Show was still well attended, and prizes were spread out, with nearly everyone who entered winning a place.
The Presentation included a lovely afternoon tea where Bourke Shire Councillor Cecil Dorrington was presented with the Certificate for 30 Years Affiliation with Garden Clubs of Australia.
Clr Dorrington also presented the Honorary Members Certificates to Shirley Booth, Shelia Lowe, Joyce O’Shannessy and Dot Dwyer. These ladies have all been long serving members and are still active, current members of the Bourke & District Garden Club. They have continued to support the club and are still volunteering! Their passion and dedication to the club is outstanding and we are very grateful for their advice and support, as members strive to continue in their huge footsteps.
We thank everyone who entered or provided afternoon tea. The support for our event was fantastic and we appreciate all the support.
Also, a reminder that the Rose & Spring Flower Show is up next on October 21. It was postponed for a week in support of the Peter Simmonds Memorial Back O’Bourke Stampede on the 14th. It should be a fantastic couple of weekends for the people of Bourke.
The Rose Show will have roses, any spring flowers in bloom including trees, shrubs, pot plants in flower or not, ferns, dried, or artificial flower arrangement, and the always outstanding table centrepiece display. The children’s section includes the 8 years and under and 9 - 13 years age groups.
You can find the Rose & Spring Flower form on the Bourke Garden Club Facebook page. If you would like to join the Club, contact Liz at bourkegardenclub@gmail.com or attend the monthly meeting on the last Sunday of the month.
