Bourke expands cross-border agreements with Queensland Councils

The original Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Bulloo Shire – based in Thargomindah in Queensland and Bourke Shire has been superseded with hopes the new version will assist in communication around issues like roads and biosecurity.

Additionally, a new Cross Border MoU has now been signed with Paroo Shire Council based in Cunnamulla.

Bourke Shire Mayor, Councillor Barry Hollman, said the MoU dated back to a meeting he had with Bulloo Shire Mayor John ‘Tractor’ Ferguson in 2016.

“It was agreed then that our councils should not let the state border be an impediment to both councils working closely together,” Councillor Hollman said.

The initial MoU between the Bourke and Bulloo Shire Councils was signed on Monday, 21 August 2017.

General Manager of Bourke Council, Mrs Leonie Brown said the MoU was initially about tourism but has now been extended to include other matters.[…]
