Bourke Airport hosts major air flood support

Bourke Airport is currently a hive of activity of activity, with nine helicopters based there for use by the SES, Rural Fire Services and Essential Energy.

Bourke Shire Council General Manager, Leonie Brown, said the biggest helicopter is the Black Hawk helicopter, which was used for transporting fuel for re-supply, first to Lightning Ridge and now to Walgett.

“There is also a Rural Fire Service helicopter, a mighty looking machine, which the Rural Fire Service will have on standby for firefighting purposes,” Mrs Brown said.

“It is equipped with pumps and hoses for isolated farms and properties so the RFS can still get in, in the event of a fire emergency.
