Bourke Aboriginal Health Service announces big development plans

Things are on the move at Bourke Aboriginal Corporation Health Services (BACHS), according to BACHS CEO John Fetuani.

Several major changes have been made at BACHS – and the organisation is currently looking at building a new Primary Health Care Centre for Bourke.

“BACHS has been going through a number of changes for the better,” Mr Fetuani said.

“We have recruited more staff, from management to clinical and in our social and emotional wellbeing program. We’re excited to be moving forward on the delivery of our programs and ensuring that BACHS provides the best support and health services for the Aboriginal community of Bourke.”

Mr Fetuani said the organisation always encourage local people to apply for roles with BACHS.

“A big priority for us at BACHS is to upskill the local community, so they can get qualifications,” he said. “Then they can not only fulfill roles at BACHS, but also move on to bigger and better things. It’s really about community development and showing that community are in control of what they achieve.”

Other recent initiatives of BACHS include a visit in February from the New South Wales BreastScreen van as well as Women’s Health Week which provided health literacy and education around women’s health for the community of Bourke.
