Bishop wants ministers in all western towns
Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Bathurst, the Right Reverend Mark Calder has been on a road trip out west, to touch base with his parishioners.
Bishop Calder’s travels saw him visit various towns including Bourke, Nyngan, Brewarrina, Coonamble, Warren, and Tottenham.
“We’re talking to people about property issues, property maintenance and the future of their church,” Bishop Calder said.
“I want to encourage people in terms of the ministry that they’re undertaking and say thank you.
“Our business manager Dr Warwick Baines is also checking up on things like property insurance and safe ministry matters. We must take care of that, and make sure all the volunteers are screened properly for background checks. So, we’re double checking on all those sorts of issues.”
Besides the material matters, Bishop Calder said his trip was also about sharing the good news of Jesus and encouraging people to do the same.
“A big part of my job is recruiting. We have 28 parishes and 11 of those don’t have ministers at present,” he said.[…]
