Big crowds take to Ice Skating at Bre

The Big Blizzard blew into Brewarrina last week and the numbers of people willing to pull on the skates and have a go were staggering.

Almost 10,000 visitors went along to enjoy the icy adventures in Brewarrina, and they all want to come back next year.

Champion skater and owner-operator of the ‘Stars on Ice’ touring ice rink, Sean Carlow, said there were four days when more than 700 people poured through the gates.

The other days drew crowds of around 600 people and the quietest day was on Sunday when everyone downed the blades and headed to the footy.

“It was a really successful venture,” Sean said. “Everyone seemed to have a ball, there was a lot of laughter and a few spills but no injuries, which was great.

“I saw a lot of posts on social media, and I think a lot of people found it strange to have an ice rink out here at Bre and wanted to give it a go, which was fantastic.

“It was a wonderful thing to have for the community and definitely worthwhile for us.

“We’d love to come back, and I believe the Brewarrina Shire Council has already booked us for next year,” he said,

The ‘Stars on Ice’ travelling ice rink tours much of NSW, but Brewarrina was the furthest inland it had ever visited. […]
