Barwon Darling Rugby League is ramping up for this year’s season, with a massive effort to develop the game out west.

Secretary of Barwon Darling Rugby League, Jack Ramage, has been touring the western region to drum up support and over the past few weeks.

Jack has visited Bourke, Brewarrina, Lightning Ridge, Goodooga, and Walgett to sign up as many young players as possible, increase the number of competitions across the region and encourage more volunteers to come on board and support their local clubs.

Jack said there had been renewed enthusiasm, particularly among younger players and Bourke and Bre would now run mid-week competitions for the 5-12 year old players.

“It’s exciting to see so many young players keen on getting into sport, these mid-week comps give the kids an opportunity to take part in sport - and our sport is rugby league.” Jack said.

“We are trying to kick-start the season by organising these mid-week competitions earlier than we have in the past and we want to see a big participation drive for the kids in that age bracket.

“In Brewarrina, the competition will be every Wednesday at 4pm during school term at the Geoff New Oval and we have had the beautiful people from the Bre Youth Centre come on board to help facilitate that program.

“It’s good to be able to offer organised sport for our kids to improve their skills and be a part of our clubs into the future.

“In Bourke, the mid-week games will be on Thursdays at 4pm at Davidson Oval and we will have some of the Bourke Warriors committee help to facilitate those games.
