Barwon Darling Rugby League comp kicks off in two weeks

The Barwon-Darling Rugby League 2024 season is all set to go with the Goodooga Magpies in the hunt for their third premiership in a row.

Secretary of Barwon Darling Rugby League, Jack Ramage, said the range of teams competing this season will make for a healthy competition.

“The season kicks off on Saturday 4 May and it’s shaping up to be a good year,” Mr Ramage said.

“Local clubs have nominated five men’s teams, four women’s teams and three U18 teams. We are also looking at four U15 teams and some Under 15 league tag teams.”

The men’s teams are Goodooga, Bourke, Brewarrina, Walgett and Newtown.

Mr Ramage said Bourke, Brewarrina and Lightning Ridge will all field four teams. Walgett will have three teams, Collarenebri will field two teams while Newtown and Goodooga will have one team each.

The group receives funding from the government to help administer the competition, which Mr Ramage said is vital to the continuation of the Barwon-Darling Rugby League.

“If we didn’t get this financial support, we couldn’t survive,” Mr Ramage said. “The League pays for registration for all the junior players, subsidises registrations for the men and pays for the educational needs of sports trainers, coaches, and referees. We also provide a free bus for all the kids to travel to games every weekend.” […]
