Back O’Bourke Gallerycelebrates 18 years

Last week, the Back O’Bourke Gallery proudly marked its 18th anniversary with a day filled with memories, bubbles, and the warmth of those who visited.

Folks gathered to celebrate the milestone, reflecting on the gallery’s journey since its establishment in 2006 by Steve and Jenny Greentree.

In the face of the millennium drought that struck Bourke, forcing around 1,000 residents to leave, Steve and Jenny could have followed suit.

Steve had lost his operations manager role at the local fruit packing shed, and Jenny’s teaching position at Pera Bore School ended as student numbers plummeted from 120 to 8.

However, the Greentrees chose to stay, driven by a vision to contribute to the developing tourism industry.

Today, Steve oversees the business while Jenny creates and shares her art with visitors.

The gallery has weathered numerous challenges, from the Global Financial Crisis to the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as recurring droughts and floods. […]
