Back O’Bourke Easter Festival – Big race meeting at Bourke this Sunday
Preparations are well under way for the Back O’Bourke Picnic Races on Sunday.
Last Saturday a good turnout of volunteers and Bourke Racing Club committee members worked at preparing the track and facilities for the upcoming race meeting.
President of the Back O’Bourke Race Club, Frank Kerr, said that several volunteers turned up for the working bee and that many that hands make light work.
“More hands would have been better, but we have a few members away at the moment,” Mr Kerr said.
“This year’s race meeting will be a big one – maybe not as big as the first one – but it will be up there with the big meetings in Bourke.
“The new bar amenities and hospitality areas are finished, and the venue is starting to look like a picture,” he said
Now in its eighth year, this will be the seventh Back O’Bourke Picnic Race meeting (the meeting in 2020 was missed due to a COVID-19 lockdown), and the committee of ten are working hard to make the event memorable for locals and visitors.
Volunteers had to replace 1300 metres of guard rail and scour the track for debris such as rocks and rubbish that may cause potential danger for the horses.
