Ashley makes a splash for sick kids
Local Bourke girl Ashley Harrod has a heart for sick kids and is making a real splash, smashing out laps and raising money.
Ashley joined the Starlight Foundations’ Super Swim Challenge recently, raising funds for sick kids in hospital, to make their stay more enjoyable.
The Super Swim allows participants to choose their distance and tackle it over thirty days.
Swimming ten kilometres throughout the month of February, Ashley achieved her goal last Monday.
Ashley says she wanted to register for the swim because she believed she was very fortunate to be healthy.
“There are lots of kids my age who are sick and don’t get to do the things that I do because they are in hospital.
“If I can make some sick kids smile, then I will have done my job. I think that is very important,” Ashley said.
Ashley’s achievement is all the more remarkable as most of her laps were swum on afternoons and weekends in her grandparents’ backyard pool.
