Anzacs remembered across the Outback

Australia’s servicemen and women were honoured at ANZAC Day ceremonies across the outback on Friday.
Services were held at Bourke, Brewarrina, Lightning Ridge, Walgett, Collarenebri and at many small communities and villages – and both the Bourke Dawn Service and 11am service were broadcast live on Outback Radio 2WEB.
At Bourke twenty-one-year-old Yarran Finn and his father Raymond Finn led the Anzac Day march down Oxley Street in Bourke on Friday to honour the memory of local Wayilwan man Trooper Alfred Whye from Gongolgon. (see full story page 3).
Bourke RSL President Victor Bartley said he was pleased with the crowd at both services and with the involvement of the school children.
“The children are our future, and it was great to see so many here during school holidays – marching, presenting tributes during the service and laying wreaths.” He said.
Bourke Mayor Lachlan Ford paid tribute to the organisers Victor Bartley and Kelly Lienesch and described the response as ‘amazing’. […]
