Year 12 Class of 2020

With their high school years now officially behind them, twelve Year 12 students from Bourke High School celebrated their achievement with a surprise graduation ceremony aboard the Jandra riverboat.

Bourke High’s Class of 2020 is: Sophie Mathews, Talisah Kelly, Shakia Johnson, Denzel Jackson, Charli Ibbotson, Estelle Edwards, Lekeisha Orcher, Royce Mackay, Kasey Willoughby, Dallas Wilson, Lorraine Dutton and Jemmah Knight.

While they will have many happy memories of their high school years, they will also remember their final year as the ‘Year of COVID-19’.

But Bourke High Principal Andrew Ryder said that COVID-19 year had impacted on each student in a positive way.

“I am extremely proud of these young people,” Mr Ryder said. “They have had to learn new skills to cope with the challenges of this year and as a result, they are resilient and determined.

“I am looking forward to keeping track of where the next few years will take these remarkable students.”

The week of celebrations began with a Year 12 formal dinner ‘COVID-19 style,’ at Diggers on the Darling on Monday night.

Then on Wednesday afternoon, the students were treated to a surprise, first ever at Bourke High School,
