A young man with deep family roots in Bourke, has turned up in town on a rural medical placement. Daniel Hedge has been in Bourke for two weeks, half-way through his month-long placement.
Daniel was born in Sydney, where he has lived all his life, and is currently studying medicine at the University of Sydney.
As part of that degree, students are required to undertake rural placements. Daniel’s initial placement was in Dubbo for one year, when he was offered the chance to come to Bourke.
“I received the opportunity to continue my rural placement and when they offered me Bourke, I jumped at the chance because I knew I had family connections there” Daniel said.
“My grandparents lived in Bourke; my mother was born here, and locals would know them; my mum is Vicki Bye and my grandparents are Ronald and Nola Bye.
“Mum had a sister Kerri and three brothers, Gordy, Peter and Tony and they all lived in Bourke too.
