Operators of main street businesses are being given a helping hand to upgrade their awnings as part of the revamp of the town centre.

Bourke Shire Council secured funding early this year for the next stage of the main street beautification project, and one of the features was to develop the Main Street Awning Improvement Program.

Council has set aside $150,000 for the project, to assist main street businesses to improve the appearance and safety of the main street awnings.

Bourke Shire Council General Manager, Ross Earl, said that the funding for the awning project would improve the look and feel of the main street, and make it a more welcoming environment for visitors and locals.

“One of the long-standing initiatives was to work with business owners to improve the facades and awnings within the main street precinct,” Mr Earl said.
