The removal of the iconic ‘Welcome to Bourke’ sign in the Percy Hobson Park last week caused concern in the community, with some residents fearful it was gone for good.

But the sign is in safe hands and will be restored by original artist, John Murray, as Bourke Council seeks community input on where it will be re-located.

Manager of Corporate Services Leonie Brown said the sign was removed to allow for work to begin on renovating the Percy Hobson Park area and the painting of a mural of the famous Bourke athlete, on the water tower.
