Louth Races 2020 abandoned


In a real blow for back country racing, the annual Louth race meeting has been cancelled due to ongoing COVID-19 restrictions.

Despite hopes that these restrictions would be eased enough for the event to go ahead, the race committee has made the tough decision to call off the Louth races this year.

President of the Louth Turf Club Jim Strachan said there were too many uncertainties for the club to commit to holding the event scheduled for August 8.

“Our time frame was just running out,” Jim said. “The window was closing on the time we needed to put together a successful race meeting. Not knowing what was going to be happening in August, I just couldn’t see our usual crowd being allowed through the gates.
