Bourke shines as life returns to normal

Bourke Shire Council is sprucing up the town in readiness for a return to normal life and the resumption of the tourism season which was stopped in its tracks by the COVID-19 virus.

With the beautification of the main street all but complete, the additional revamping in Central Park and other amenities around the town will mean Bourke is ready for business once all restrictions are finally lifted.

General Manager Ross Earl said state government funding had helped council get the work done and it was now time to gear up for a return to business.

“Council designated outdoor gym equipment, the renovation of Poet’s Corner and the installation of shade sails over the skate park and the gym equipment as part of the beautification,” Mr Earl said.

“Work will also be carried out on the cenotaph and rotunda as part of the extended CBD upgrade.”

Mayor Barry Hollman was keen to see the tourism season resume and said increased interest in regional tourism would see Bourke return as a popular destination.

“We were on the threshold of a good season when the virus hit so it will be great when we get visitors back,” Mayor Hollman said.
