Bourke Council has approved the installation of improved LED lighting throughout the shire, including Bourke, North Bourke and the shire villages at a total cost of $375,000.
The LED lighting is already working in many parts of Bourke, including along the highway through town, and many Bourke residents have noticed a huge improvement in light quality and coverage at night.
The LED (light emitting diodes) streetlights are currently being installed by Essential Energy to replace the “old technology” high pressure sodium and fluorescent lights.
Bourke Shire Council General Manager Ross Earl says the new LED lights use much less energy, need less maintenance, and provide a better quality of light.
