Lest We Forget

Bourke RSL members and ANZAC Day organisers Kelly Lienesch and Victor Bartley usually lead the services in Bourke. This year they will be heard on 2WEB PHOTO TWH

The year 2020 will be remembered as the year when there were no traditional ANZAC Day services throughout the country.

And it will be remembered as the year when the Bourke RSL and local radio station 2WEB combined to present both services on-air so that the whole community can remember together and pay their respects to our diggers.

With the cancellation of all Anzac Day marches and services due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Bourke RSL is calling for the community to keep all ex-servicemen and women in mind while isolated at home or at work this Saturday April 25.

RSL NSW has declared that all public Anzac Day services would be cancelled in 2020 after the federal government announced bans on ‘non-essential’ outdoor gatherings.

In Bourke this includes the dawn service and breakfast afterwards, the march from Diggers on the Darling to the Cenotaph and the traditional 11am ANZAC Day service.

Bourke RSL President Victor Bartley is calling on the community to help remember Australia’s diggers via “virtual” ANZAC Day services on Outback Radio 2WEB.
