Bourke’s Citizen of the Year Award winner Peter Crothers is a quiet achiever whose dedication to his customers and community was recognised at the citizenship awards ceremony at Bourke Swimming Pool on Australia Day. The accolade caps off an astounding year for Peter, who was also named Australia’s Pharmacist of the Year for 2019.

“It means a great deal to me and yes, it’s really significant,” Peter said.

“I had no idea I had been nominated and it was a real surprise to get it.

“I think being recognised by my own community is the best thing of all for me.

“It’s a great honour - these people are my life and my livelihood and to be recognised by them is the best thing of all,” he said.

In announcing the award, Mayor Barry Hollman said Peter had a passion for not only pharmacy practices in rural and remote communities but was also a long time contributor to the ongoing development of the town.

“Peter is widely recognised for his pharmaceutical skills and knowledge, Mayor Hollman said.

“He regularly encourages those in need to seek medical treatment, he takes time to review medications and treatments being provided to the aged and frail to ensure their needs are being met and is a firm believer that people need to speak up and advocate for those who aren’t able to speak for themselves.”
