Sally wins National Title

2019 was a spectacular year for Bourke equestrienne, Sally Simmonds, beginning with her award as Bourke’s Young Sportsperson of the Year and capped off with the stunning achievement of being named Australian Jumping National Rider of the Year.

And now Sally has won the Bourke Sportsperson award as well (see story on page 4).

Sally’s win means she has been judged as the best rider in the nation across all age levels – even though she was still eligible to compete as a Junior.

The award saw her knock out senior riders for the title and she is now focussed on increasing her dominance not just in her home country but internationally as well.

It hasn’t come easy though, with Sally travelling thousands of kilometres over the year and having to manage a team of horses to maintain her competitive advantage.

“I’ve got a very competitive team at the moment and a large variety of horses – my Junior horse, my Young Rider horse, a Futurity horse, and other young horses so I am getting plenty of time in the ring and a lot of shows,” Sally said.

“I’ve done a lot of miles too and it has paid off.
