Cabinet visit marks stellar year for Bourke – despite drought

It will be a case of “seeing is believing” when the NSW State government’s Community Cabinet arrives in Bourke this weekend. 

As many as 70 people will be in the convoy, including 24 cabinet ministers and their staff and advisers. Accommodation in Bourke will be at a premium, with almost all available motel space booked for Sunday night.

The Community Cabinet will be travelling by bus from Dubbo and the trip will give every Minister a firsthand look at the devastation wrought by the drought. Acting Bourke Shire Council General Manager Leonie Brown said for some Ministers, the Bourke expedition will be their first experience of a drought this far west.

“This really is a coup for Bourke, to have every Minister here as well as so many staff and advisers,” she said.

“All credit must go to Mayor Barry Hollman and General Manager Ross Earl for working so hard to secure this event.
