The Port of Bourke Hotel hosted a popular country music band of brothers on Saturday night during their tour of the Far West. The Bowden Brothers hail from Gloucester and have hit the road to bring their unique blend of original and well-known country music to Bourke and communities further afield.

The band brought with it an entourage of family and friends, making up a touring party of 80 people - a welcome addition to the visitor tally for Bourke.

Grant, Murray, Phil and Matthew Bowden are proud of their indigenous heritage and along with Daryl Cornelius on drums bring music that connects communities to country.

Their tour kicked off on September 19 and winds its way through Lightning Ridge, Bourke, Charleville, Longreach, Mt Isa, Barkley Roadhouse and then finish with an open-air concert in Tennant Creek on October 6.

Tour manager Brian Beesley said the brothers had a commitment to people in the country where life could sometimes be difficult with drought, economic conditions and distance.

“The boys have all been successful in their own lives and they present a wonderful role model to Australians who are doing it tough,” Brian said.
