Final touches before Enngonia Races

With race day just around the corner, Enngonia race club members and volunteers were out in force putting the final touches to the grounds last weekend.

The big day is this Saturday and spokesperson Richard Ridge said this year, the club was hoping there would be good weather conditions and a big turnout for the event.

Last year strong winds couldn’t dampen the enthusiasm of the crowd and this year Richard said he’s hopeful there’ll be an even bigger turnout.

“We have free entry on the day, a free bus service from Bourke, plenty of interest from trainers and a lot of support across the community,” he said.

“We’ll be holding the Calcutta on the day at the track, we’ll also be holding Fashions on the Field which always draws a strong crowd, and everything is shaping up for a really great day of racing and entertainment.”

As well as Fashions on the Field, there will be bar and barbecue facilities. entertainment for the kids, live entertainment after the races and plenty of action on the track.

Country race meetings have faced challenges during the drought with Collarenebri Race Club the latest casualty. The Club cancelled its race meet and Richard said it might see an increase in the number of trainers nominating to race at Enngonia.

“Our track is looking in great condition and the working bee at the weekend saw the facilities get a clean-up, the grounds get a once over and the track getting the final touches for the races.

“It’s all looking great for Saturday, and we are really looking forward to a fun and enjoyable day not just for punters but for the entire Enngonia community and the region,” he said.
