Helpers needed for Bourke Show
Bourke Show Committee President Ben Ritchie says more helpers are needed to organise the 2020 Bourke Show Photo TWH
The Bourke Show will run next year, whether there’s water or not.
Bourke Show President Ben Ritchie said the decision to cancel this year’s show was not taken lightly and the Show Committee was determined it would be back in 2020.
“We don’t want to cancel two years in a row, but we need community support to make sure it happens next year,” Ben said.
“Our biggest need is for people to join the Show Committee. We have plenty of volunteers on the day and just before the Show and we are very grateful to every one of them, but we need people to help with the planning from now until the Show next year.
“We’ve had some excellent, long term committee people who are no longer able to contribute or who have left the area and there are fewer people here now as well so it makes it hard to put bums on seats.
“It’s not just the Show committee that is struggling to attract enough members – it’s across the board with sporting clubs and other organisations, not just on our committee, crying out for help.
“The Show Committee is looking for people for a number of roles, including Treasurer and Secretary and I am happy for someone else to take on the job of President if they are keen.”
Ben said the committee was already at work on next year’s event.
“There’s a lot of forward planning and administration required where we need extra hands,” he said.
“About now we start looking for entertainment – fireworks, bucking bulls or musicians.
“We have to start approaching people for sponsorship, so those forms have to be sent out. There’s a lot of back room stuff and a lot of admin that must be dealt with.
“We are also keen for new people to join to bring fresh ideas and enthusiasm to the committee.
“Rain or no rain, water or no water, we are committed to having a show, but we need people to help plan it,” Ben said.
Ben is urging people to come along to the Bourke Show Annual General Meeting which will be held on Wednesday September 18 at the Port of Bourke Hotel.
He is also urging the community to support the Bourke Showgirl competition, which will be judged at a cocktail event at Knight’s Delites on Friday September 13 at 6.30pm.
“Please, please, please buy your tickets and support the girls,” Ben said.
“We need to know numbers for catering purposes and while it’s great if people turn up on the night, if they could please purchase their tickets now, that would be an enormous help,” he said.
The Showgirl Cocktail Evening is on September 13 at Knight’s Delites and tickets are available by emailing email@example.com
