There were high spirits but also some despondent Bourke locals at the Port of Bourke Hotel on Friday when chef Shayne Barwick hung up his apron for the last time.

Shayne is leaving Bourke after a six month stint as chef and will be remembered for his input into revitalising the hotel’s menu.

Hotel owner Luke Moon said Shayne had been a tireless worker and had helped the hotel reach out to new customers and keep loyal locals coming back for more.

“I’ll be sorry to go, mainly because I have made some really good friends here,” Shayne said.
