The State government budget included critical funding for Bourke and Walgett, with $10 million allocated to improve the quality of drinking water through upgrades to water infrastructure.

The funding is in addition to the $11.2 million investment made during the drought for emergency relief in 20 communities across the state.

NSW Water Minister Melinda Pavey said the government was continuing its work with the Murray Darling Basin Plan and this year will deliver more Water Resources Plans that any other Basin state.

The Budget includes $97.8 million in funding over three years, including $30.8 million for the next financial year, to deliver Sustainable Diversion Limit Adjustment Mechanism Projects, which the Minister said were a critical piece of the Murray Darling Basin Plan.
