Bourke to Chad and back!

Thirty years ago – in 1989 – local girl Elly Sharp and her new husband David Sharp set out on an adventure that has taken them to Chad in Central Africa, and back to Bourke again.

Elizabeth Matilde Orozco arrived in Bourke 20 years earlier – fresh off the plane from Mexico – as a 15 year old Spanish speaking teenager.

Elly had come to Australia as part of a family reunion immigration program to be with her sister Amada McIntosh who married a Bourke-based dairy farmer – Malcolm McIntosh of Lodebar.

After learning English in Bourke and graduating from Bourke High School, Elly attended secretarial college in Sydney and then moved back to Bourke to work for Cornerstone where she met her husband David Sharp.
