Air Services decision likely within a month

Chair of the Far West Joint Organisation of Councils Lilliane Brady says air services to Bourke, Cobar and Walgett will be running soon PHOTO TW

The return of air services to Bourke, Cobar and Walgett inched closer to reality after a recent meeting of the Far West Joint Organisation Board.

On the table was a multi-million-dollar contract that will return flights to these outback towns.

Although no decision was made on which provider would be the successful bidder, the JO Board is confident air services will take off in the very near future.

Bourke Mayor Barry Hollman was hopeful there would be a decisive outcome following the meeting on Friday, but although that wasn’t the outcome, the decision is likely within a month.

JO Chair Cobar Mayor Lilliane Brady said as a result of the meeting, further consideration of the airline carrier proposals was needed to determine the offering that will provide the best service to passengers and represents optimal value to taxpayers.
