Newly-elected member for Barwon Roy Butler has come out swinging after taking the seat from the Nationals for the first time in the electorate’s history.

Water management, health, coal seam gas and employment were at the top of the agenda as the new state parliamentarian was taken through his induction at Parliament House, Sydney last week.

Mr Butler said the election of three Shooters, Fishers and Farmers candidates in the Legislative Assembly wasn’t enough for them to hold the balance of power, but he was still confident the SFF would be a force to be reckoned with.

“We have two candidates elected to the Upper House where the minor parties hold the balance of power,” he said.

“Unfortunately the predictions of a hung parliament didn’t happen but the minor parties – including us, One Nation, the Liberal Democrats and the Australian Justice Party — will hold the government to account.”
