The Back O’Bourke Exhibition Centre has been the tourism showcase for the Bourke region for more than 15 years, attracting thousands of visitors each year.
The driving force behind the original concept was historian Dr Paul Roe, whose vision was for an interactive experience telling the story of the Outback.
With the support of government, local business and the Bourke Council, that vision became reality and Bourke now boasts a world standard Visitor Information and Exhibition Centre.
Paul was in Bourke last week to assess plans for upgrading the exhibits and train new staff, who he says are the ‘front doors’ to Bourke and the Outback experience.
“One of the things we’ve been doing is getting the new staff to understand the stories of Bourke and how they are bigger than just the town; they are as a big as this country,” Paul said.
