The North Bourke abattoir will begin operations in October, with the official opening scheduled for December, according to Bourke Mayor Barry Hollman.

Shire councillors were given a tour of the facility on Monday by Managing Director of Capra Developments George Tanos.

Mayor Hollman said it was an exciting venture for Bourke that would have a positive impact on the economy of the region.

“The meatworks is a ‘state of the art’ facility and shows faith in the future of Bourke,” he said.

“There was a run through of the machinery this week and management tells us it will be operational sometime in October.

“The official opening will be the first week of December.

“It really is a wonderful opportunity for us and the Bourke Shire Council is excited to see how the development has progressed.
