Dresses for The Drought

A novel idea to help people who may be in hardship during the drought will be held in Bourke.

Dresses for the Drought will be at the Bourke High School Multi-Purpose Centre on Saturday 22nd September.

One of the organisers is Tracy Hull who said Dresses for the Drought is an initiative started by two sisters who wanted to do their bit for people in hardship, particularly young women who may not be able to afford dresses for formals, graduations, weddings or other special occasions.

Anita Guyett and Tashoni Hardy grew up on a cattle station outside Mackay and decided to collect and donate formal wear for women after hearing about school formals being cancelled because students couldn’t afford the gowns and suits.

They appealed for donations of suitable formal wear on Facebook and were overwhelmed with the response.

Tracy said she was inspired by their efforts and decided to hold a similar “pop-up shop” event in Bourke. Some of the dresses donated for the first event are now headed for Bourke.
