The battle to save Bourke’s fig trees appears to be lost, with council voting in favour of maintaining the policy to remove all fig trees from Bourke’s streets.

A number of fig trees in Short Street were chopped down on Tuesday, August 21. A last minute appeal to stay the chainsaws saw the trees near the Bourke Christian Church in Anson Street remain, temporarily. Read more in the printed edition of the Western Herald.
