The battle to save Bourke’s fig trees from the axe continues, with the Bourke Christian Church requesting council spare the trees outside its premises in Anson Street.

Two large trees were earmarked for removal but the congregation asked Church Secretary Ian Cole, who is also a Bourke councillor, to act on its behalf and request the trees remain.

Meanwhile, Councillor John Thompson has also written to council regarding the cost of removing the fig trees compared to their value to the community.
