The management of the North Bourke abattoir has hit back at allegations it is seeking predominantly foreign labour to operate the plant when it opens in a few months.

Concerns about the make-up of the labour force at the meatworks were raised with local shire councillors.

The allegations suggest Taiwanese workers will be given preference over locals to staff the meatworks.

There have been persistent claims 457 visa workers and backpackers will be the predominant labour candidates.
