Local residents have expressed concern about the wilful destruction of trees on the riverbank behind Darling Street, North Bourke last week.

One tree was completely cut down using and axe or tomahawk, while another massive Red River Gum has been burnt down on the edge of the river

The fire appears to have been deliberately lit (see photograph taken on Tuesday). A fire extinguisher was also stolen from the new waterworks site at North Bourke and deliberately discharged into the river. Police are aware of the issues at North Bourke and are investigating. Photo: TWH
