Locals and visitors had the rare chance to experience dragon boating on the Darling River during the Easter festival. Peter Thomas organised the event, bringing in a full sized dragon boat with instructors Bill and Beth Thomas on hand to give participants a short lesson in rowing skills. Thirty four people took up the opportunity to have a go and Peter hopes it is an activity he can run on a regular basis if there is enough demand.
“We’ll be holding a community meeting in a couple of weeks to see if there is strong interest to do it on a regular basis. The dragon boat lives in Bourke and we see it as a community resource we’d like to share,” he says.
